Ikasi Media is a project very close to Plett’s heart. Lika and Clyde Berning, until recently residents of Plett, are the founders of the NPO which strives to upskill and train candidates for work in the film industry, focussing on the Garden Route.
Ikasi Media is a partner in the Plett Food & Film Festival and along with Plett Tourism has presented workshops in various film support skills over the last 4 years.
This is the first fully accredited training course completed with 6 of the graduates from Plett! Congratulations, this is a great achievement.
The first iKasi Media graduation ceremony was a great success with 22 learners receiving their certificates for the 3 month programme – Introduction to Film and TV.
We had learners from across the district in attendance as well representatives from the municipality – Natalie Raubenheimer, Johannes Jafta, Angeline Naidoo. Carlyn Sassman, from The National Youth Development Agency, joined the ceremony to hand out certificates. Entrepreneurship Development forms a part of the accredited Skills Programme
Chairman of the Garden Route Film Office, Phillip de Vries supported as well as the families of the learners. The response from the audience for the 4 short films made by the learners was amazing!
The graduates were left encouraged by the opportunities in the 4th Industrial Revolution – empowered to use their devices to create authentic content and equipped to take up jobs in the growing Media Industry.
